FISHING AS A LUXURY SPORT-How to Find a Good Fishing Spot

For the modern sports fisherman or if you are fishing for a good time (see what I did there), it is all about choices; what species to try to catch, where to fish, what bait to use, the list is endless, and even when you have selected a suitable venue, where, within that venue, will you fish?
First, find your dependable fishing rods. Fish Head showcases Zenaq fishing rods that are efficient and durable. Then, choose your venue. On a stretch of beach 5-10 kilometres long, there will be spots that offer a better chance of catching than others, and while it is true that regular sessions will give you that knowledge, there are tell-tale signs that will help you choose the best spot, and with that in mind, here are some factors to consider if you’ve never fished a venue.
Where are the locals fishing?
So many of us will be travelling during the holidays, so this is a fun sport/hobby to take on. Places like Watamu Marine National Park, Malindi Marine Park both in the Kenyan coast or Trout Tree in Nanyuki, Kenya. If there are others with lines out, take note of where they are, and prior to making a decision, a slow walk and chat with the locals might help you with some info. It is important to ascertain whether or not the other anglers are fishing for the species you have in mind, and if they are, what bait are they using? When seeking knowledge about a fishing venue, you could be met with anything from as much help as can be given to a flat-out refusal to give any advice, while actively covering up bait boxes. Most fishermen are happy to share their local knowledge, as they too, visit virgin waters and appreciate the local wisdom, unless we are talking match fishing, when all bets are off! Buy your fishing equipment from reputable online suppliers of brand name rods and reels, along with all the accessories.

- Know your species. Whether you are looking to hook into a big marlin, or tackle a fighting king salmon, you should know the ideal feeding conditions for your target fish, while looking at potential spots. The Internet offers a wealth of information of fish species and their preferred habitats, and with an hour or two of browsing, you should have a fair idea of the ideal fishing conditions. If you’re new to the sport, it should be noted that the ideal fishing spot is not necessarily ideal for the fisherman, which might mean roughing it a little in your quest for success. There are many ways of catching fish, and using a rod and line is considered to offer the best experience, and often, one big fish is enough to get a person hooked!
- Go with your inner feelings. Sometimes, a particular spot kind of feels right, and regardless of what anyone says, fishing really is hit and miss. You could catch a record-breaking fish in a spot that no one bothers to fish, and for many enthusiasts, if it feels right, then that’s where they will tackle up. It doesn’t take long to relocate, especially if you are well-prepared, although resist the temptation to think that changing your spot will work; you might be minutes away from the biggest fish of your life, so patience is recommended.

Always try to get local advice whenever possible, as this could save you a lot of time, and if conditions are right, look for a spot that offers you some shade and trust good fortune to make a productive expedition. Think about how you will fish and always go with a tried and trusted bait, as the first visit is not a time for trial and error, and with local support, you will likely end up with the best spot on the entire beach.
